WHAT OUR STUDENTS ARE SAYING

Body:
Service learning is very important for several reasons; some of these reasons include that it is a very good opportunity for students to give back to our community, it helps teach students about the material being learned in the classroom in another setting, and it can help students to learn more about themselves and the community.

Civic Engagement Activities

Summary:

These civic engagement activities provide both rewarding, service-based experiences, as well as valuable networking and resume building opportunities, such as internships.

WHAT OUR STUDENTS ARE SAYING

Body:
Service learning provides an excellent opportunity for my students to extend their understanding of concepts we cover in lecture and readings to the real world setting. I believe these opportunities teach lessons I cannot teach in the classroom as students recognize content in textbooks and lectures represent real-world issues with real people.

Civic Engagement Service Learning

Summary:

Service learning allows students to apply what they are learning in that particular class to real-world situations, essentially giving them a little bit of “practice” for their endeavors after college. It provides an opportunity for students to cultivate skills in leadership and collaboration, for them to put theory into action.

WHAT OUR STUDENTS ARE SAYING

Body:
I absolutely loved participating in the service learning project for this class!... I feel that my participation in this service-learning project truly enhanced my overall learning of the material for this class. I believe this project was also beneficial to the students [we partnered with]...At the end of our service learning project the teachers we had worked with let us know how thankful they were that we had taken the time to do this club with the students over the semester.
