Think at GC:  The Metacognition Project

Think at GC will be implemented over a five-year period, beginning in the Fall of 2022.  By explicitly informing and educating faculty, staff, and students about metacognitive knowledge and practices, the QEP aims to increase undergraduate retention, persistence, and graduation.

Goals

The purpose of Think at GC: The Metacognition Project is to focus, strategically, on three primary areas of the Georgetown College curriculum:  the first-term, skill-focused, Foundations 111 (FDN 111) course, Freshman Seminar (GSC 101), and the high-enrollment entry-level classes where students struggle the most academically at higher rates.

 

Student Learning Outcomes

Students will develop metacognitive skills and practices and learn to incorporate those into challenging classes.  These skills will empower students as they engage in their life’s pursuits.  

 

Student Success Outcomes

  • Increase retention rates (measured fall to fall) by 3.5% over a five-year period
  • Increase persistence rates by 4% over a five-year period
  • Increase graduation rates by 3% over a five-year period

 

What is a Quality Enhancement Plan?

A QEP, or Quality Enhancement Plan, is a plan of action to improve student knowledge, skills, attitudes, values or behaviors, or to impact the student learning environment and student success.

SACSCOC (Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges) defines the QEP as an integral component of the reaffirmation of accreditation process and is derived from an institution’s ongoing comprehensive planning and evaluation processes. It reflects and affirms a commitment to enhance overall institutional quality and effectiveness by focusing on an issue the institution considers important to improving student learning outcomes and/or student success.
